I know I am a little late on this.

I do buy CDs, but not usually of music I got from Podcasts. If I can get the music on the ‘cast, I can buy DRM-free mp3s just as easily.

Hey, Dave.

Thanks for this podcast. I know I am a little late with this comment, but I didn’t hear the end of it the first time I listened. I have gone back and listened to #130 another couple of times now, and it is really great!

Up until the turn of this year, I still bought mostly cds. Now, it is pretty much just digital for me. I just got tired of having to either find a place for the jewel cases or throw them away. I don’t like doing that, because I don’t like wasting things. Anyway, I think it just comes down to a price thing for me. The digital downloads are cheaper by a couple of dollars, therefore, I get those. If the cds were the same price as the MP3 downloads, I might have to think harder about which to choose.

I still buy CDs because I like having something tangible. But I’ve lately been buying single tracks online.

Well, I think CDs give you better sound quality than compressed audio files and I like them for that.
However, I try to buy downloadable music when possible. The simple reason for this is that in the next few years I might have to move to a new home for a few times and it will be much easier without a huge CD library to lug along.
Of course, when I buy downloadable music, I try to get the best quality possible without DRM and in a way that rewards the artist best. For that I’ve found CD Baby to be a good choice — at least in the cases where they offer the music as MP3. But I also buy a lot of music from iTunes, even DRM protected where I cannot find another option. I’d like to try out Amazon’s MP3 store, but it’s still USA only. And I don’t use eMusic because I don’t like subscription services in general.
Keep up the good work Dave! Dave’s lounge is one of the main places where I hear the music I buy first.

I still buy CDs (if available) because they still are the best backup for digital music. Otherwise would feel uncomfortable having no backup of my digital music archive.

Download single tracks and hard to get items. Much prefer a tangible CD to collect – especially for my favorites.

I don’t buy many CDs. I ask for them for birthdays and Christmas, since it’s easier to gift than digital music, and I’ll pick up the occasional CD for my car (it doesn’t play MP3s). But, otherwise, everything is all digital.

I still prefer CD’s. You’ll get a good quality CD (much better than the CD-R’s you’ll find in bulk), a nice booklet and cover and it looks better with a CD than a burnt CD-R, even when you have legally bought the digital music on that CD-R. People react to you as if you have downloaded all your albums from some illegal place.

Yeah, yeah, I am old fashioned around these things But truth be told, I am buying more and more from eMusic and such, much thanks to you Brian. And some artists you can’t find in any “real” CD stores.

Yep, still buy CDs.
Prefer something tangible and minimally compressed.
I might ditch cds when they decide to distribute music using lossless compression and DRM-free
