So you might seen me mention on my Twitter feed this week (and in past weeks) that Verizon DSL service has suddenly become quite useless inside my house. While there's one local Verizon repairman who's sympathetic to my cause, my complaints have, for the most part, fallen on deaf ears. I'm sure Verizon would love to offer me FiOS, expect that there's no timetable at all for FiOS rollout here in Durham, North Carolina.

I would leave Verizon tomorrow, as I'm out of contract, but my only other option is Time Warner Cable, which is more expensive, and their apparent lack of interest in fixing a malfunctioning junction box behind my house is the reason that I switched to Verizon in the first place. So I have two options for high-speed Internet access at my house, and neither of them really work properly. So what do I do now? Seriously, if anyone out there has suggestions, post a comment here, because I'm starting to miss having an Internet connection I can rely on.

  1. Do you get Clearwire where you are? It’s satellite internet – not too spendy either! Best of luck. I’ve followed your show on iTunes for three years and it’s the best podcast out there.

  2. Sadly, Clearwire doesn’t work in my neighborhood, as it’s something of a wireless dead zone. I can barely get one bar on Verizon, and friends and neighbors on other networks have similar troubles. So Clearwire isn’t really an option here, sadly.

  3. Dave, thanks for persevering. You are SUCH a treat to look forward to every week. As someone who is working hard to build a momentum in his own scheduling and services and battling procrastination, life distractions, etc, you are personally one of my inspirations. Not only in terms of the precious music you share, but personal things like this that show how silly some of my own excuses are for falling short of my schedule. So, just a big thank you for that. AnjiBee, of course, is the other bookend of that kind of inspiration, so if she stumbles upon this, I don’t want her to feel slighted. lol

So this Verizon issue must be a local thing because Verizon is THE service for cells here in NYC. Amazing service all around. However, I would not choose FiOs over Cable, since it is much slower for proportionally higher prices. I have one of the fastest internet connections you can get in residents in America at 101Mbps and my service is nearly flawless. But that’s with CableVision/OptimumOnline. Okay, that was completely useless information, but still… I wonder what makes these services so great in one place, and not in another. Well, except AT&T.

    Thanks, Dave!!
