If I do ever get a bike, it would be a recumbent, which isn't cheap, and even then, getting around would require a fair amount of traffic dodging. John: Living in the south for so long has made me kind of a wimp when it comes to the cold. Otherwise, I might have given big city life a try already. Perhaps I'll get the opportunity one day... My brother lives in Philadelphia (he is British, as am I, and I live in Greece, so we are spread around the world a bit!) and he loves it there, it seems. As regards having to use a car to get around in Durham, why not get a bike - perhaps a foldable one? I don't know if that is practical, but it's an idea!
