Dave’s Lounge #181: Back for 2010

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Dave’s Lounge re-opens for 2010 with a few changes:

1.) By popular demand, I’ve brought back the original theme music, my song "By Candlelight," which is now available as a free download on both Soundcloud and TheSixtyOne.com. At some point, I want to put this song on iTunes and eMusic as well, but that might be a few months down the road.

2.) I’ve decided to make Dave’s Lounge a bi-weekly podcast, rather than a weekly podcast. This is in large part because of my struggles to keep this show on a regular schedule for much of last year. My hope was that the 200th show would coincide with this show’s 5th anniversary, but now that it’s clear this will not happen, I figure it’s best to make this show fit my schedule, rather than the other way around. I know this will disappoint a few listeners out there, but bear in mind this is only one of several hobbies I’m pursuing, and I’m still trying to find the right balance for all of them. Hopefully, this will help.

I’m a little on edge tonight, for a variety of reasons. Sometimes when that happens, I come back this particular episode I recorded early in 2008 and press play. I’m putting it back in the feed this week, because it just suits my mood, and sometimes you just need music that helps you feel the way you’re feeling.

I’ll have new music for y’all next week. Thanks for listening.

omlogoLast week, this show put the spotlight on Sine Music. This week, the spotlight falls on the good folks at Om Records, a San Francisco-based label that was gracious enough to send me a small package of CDs last week, and trust me when I say that very good things came in this small package. If you dug last week’s music selection, I know you’re gonna dig this…

I came down with the flu last week — not sure if it was the dreaded swine flu or not, but it was nasty — so while I’m recovering from that, I’m going to leave with a few new from the good folks at Sine Music, including a couple of tracks from Polished Chrome’s debut full-length album, "First Experience." Sine Music has been good to this podcast over the last two years, so go show ‘em some love by buying a song or two…

So I fell behind in just about every facet of my life after my recent trip to Philadelphia — which was not only a great time, but also a bit of a learning experience about life in an old city. My friends and I did a lot of walking that weekend, even though it was rainy and cold out, because everything was close by, and driving anywhere was expensive and inconvenient.

People live and work and play in cities like that all over the world. There’s a certain romance to that. It makes me wish I didn’t live in a sprawling town where car ownership is a practical requirement…
